    Walther Sportmodell mit seltsame badge

    Halo!

    My apologies for not using your native language. I am a firearm owner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, and I have come here looking for information.

    My grandfather brought home a Walther Sportmodell from Germany after WWII. It has an interesting badge on the side of the butt stock. I know nothing about the meaning of this badge and it has made me curious enough to come here asking for help. Does anyone have any information?

    I found the Reichenau island, and contacted the town historian, and was not able to find any information there.

    Hi Josh,

    the Center of the Badge show´s the sign of Saint Hubertus. Hi is the holy patron of the german hunters (deer with the Cross).

    The rest i guess, is the name of the former owner of the handgun and his habitat. Maybe he was an hunter. There is a special hunter - handgun competition in germany (draw and shoot...what ever), therefore a sportpistol.

    I except it was the Name of a gunshmith - because it´s a Walther...

      So, my answer is:

      J.E. Wanderer was an "Forrest and Hunting Officer" (Forst-und Jagdaufseher) in the 30th because the sign is from after 1934.
      The .22 Gun was not for Sport, only for official meetings with the members of the (Nazi) Party. It was "a part" of the official uniform for the "Jagdaufseher" (Office from "Reichsjägermeister" Göring)

        Thank you for your insight! I appreciate it. Just to clarify though, this is a long gun in 22 lr. and not a hand gun. Thanks!

          Very interesting. How do you know it is from after 1934? I will have to do more research into this...

            so that was the reason of my sleepless night. How small was the badge, to be on an handgun stock??....

              I fixed the link, and as I said before, this is a long gun like the one shown here: http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/wa...-22-lr-r13305/

              The badge is about 25 mm diameter.

              I will post some original pictures of my rifle when I get home later.

                  Very nice collection

                  Yepp (!) , the ".22 Walther Sport" looks like an "Ordonanz Gewehr" with this badges ! It was never "used" in the WWII. Only for official meetings with the..how i can explain...official uniforms. Also, only for "show" with the Party-Members !

                  This is the first Gun, what i see in orginal. I know only old Pictures of this .22 Walther.

                      The Sport Model as the Wehrsportgewehr in .22lr were used as training-rifles almost in the HJ and SA, they were even used as training-rifles by Wehrmacht.
                      It is not correct to call it a ceremony-rifle.

                        It shows the situation of conversion Saint Hubertus. I Think the backround message is – Remember also, every creature has his dignity -

                        A realy nice Rilfle! It´s part of germanys dark history….but the rifle is the innocent relict. For the first view it looks like an Mauser K98 rifle. But I`m not the rifle specialist, only handguns and a realy small part of rifles - most lever action.

                        yes, thats right, it was not only a ceremonic gun. But i think with apply of the badge it lost this status and alternates to a ceromonic gun.

                          Thats correct: It Usefull for the HJ and other Parts of the Nazi Party. BUT (!) every time they use for ceremony with officials....(for safety )
