From a friend in Brazil:
Hey guys, here is some of the Brazillian contracts for Mausers rifles :
1) Model 94: 7x57mm, 29" barrel, manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Co. and by FN, looks like the ´93 Spanish. Issued in 1894.
2) Model 1904: 7x57mm, 29" barrel, manufactured by Mauser, DWM, large ring Model 98. Issued in aprox. 1904 by the Brazillian army(EB- Exército Brasileiro) - an then, later on, by "Força Policial do Distrito Federal" (look alike "Mauser-Vergueiro" model).
3) Model 1907: 7x57mm, 23" barrel, by Mauser, large ring 98.
4) Model 1908: 7x57mm, 29" barrel, by DWM, large ring 98. Issued in 1908 by the army(EB) and estate police forces.
5) Model 1912: 7x57mm, 29" barrel, by Austrian Arms Co. Steyr, Large ring 98 Mauser. Issued circa 1912 by Minas Gerais estate police force.
6) Model 1922: 7x57mm, 23" barrel, by FN, "Model 98" based, but small ring action. Issued in 1922 by the army (EB). ( We can say is has the same size as the g33-40)
7) Model 1908/34: 7x57mm, 23" barrel, by CZ, large ring Model 98", with the CZ Vz.24 standards. Issued circa 1934, but a lot of these rifles were re-manufactured by the army (Fábrica de Itajubá - IMBEL) to .30-06, in the 1950´s, and so they were called "mosquetes" or "mq.30-year"
Model 1935: 7x57mm, 29" barrel, by Mauser, large ring Model 98. Issued in 1935 by the Brazilian army (EB-Exército Brasileiro)
Itajubá re-issued the Mausers as 30-06, and modified some Mausers to shotguns also. Its not difficult to find ´94 Mauser in 28ga. or 36ga. here.
Regards,Reiter.
Brazilian Mausers are as strong as any other 98 action, but they saw a lot of hard use in wet conditions and the Receiver/bolt were in the white. Check under the wood line for pitting, I've seen some with pits that are almost all the way through the side of the receiver.
